An asset manager with growth aspirations for its institutional business needed a more robust and consistent approach to achieving outperformance. It required an independent assessment to gain a better understanding of how its investment process could be better implemented, from an efficiency and market-facing perspective, within the parameters of its existing infrastructure and resource.

Given our expertise and knowledge of best practice, we were engaged to review their investment process.

What we did

  • Mapped, challenged and documented the existing investment approach, what it was based on, and how it was implemented
  • Mapped, challenged and documented the existing investment strategy and process to assess alignment with their investment philosophy and whether it met their investment objectives
  • Reviewed how the investment approach was demonstrated and assured, in terms of how the team operated and the processes they used
  • Benchmarked the investment process against best practice and recommended on how to bridge identified gaps
  • Realigned their investment processes with their investment philosophy and objectives
  • Defined a dashboard and other controls to be implemented in order to monitor the process and its efficacy
  • Identified a set of metrics that could be used as part of the ongoing appraisal for the team, its processes, and even individuals
